If you had to give up part of the music what part would it be?

the top end
the mids
the bottom

The extremes at the treble and the ultra low end we could give up within reason, Sonic guesses.

The upper bass and midrange is where most of the musick so I won't want to lose this.

A full upper bass is important. A thin sound is grating. Sonic remembers how some audiophiles led by a certain Absolutist magazine thought that the Tablette mini monitors were wonderful. To my ears they were thin and wiry, very unreal. A concert piano sounded like a honky tonk piano through them.

The upper trebles give air and transient reality but I have heard beautiful musick from the Ortofon SPU which has a tilted down treble....so what is theoretical and what is beautiful is not always in sync....thinks Sonic

I like your answer sonic:!: I've gone to a lot of peoples systems and it sounds like there has been a knife takin out and cut the meat right off the musical bones. It's like there is only a hard cold skeleton left. I will sit there and listen but I can't do this for me.

So this means the mid range is something I can't live without.

I also love bass lines. As you said again, it doesn't even have to be the lowest of low bass lines (though a low bass line is thrilling).

So for me giving up the highs would have to be the one that I would miss the least.

It is weird to listen to something very rolled off but I can get use to this faster I think. High frequency fatique is the worse posible listening torture.
